{"identifier":"/us/usc/t10/s709","title":10,"num":"\u00a7\u202f709.","heading":"Emergency leave of absence","text":"\u00a7\u202f709.\nEmergency leave of absence\n(a)\nEmergency Leave of Absence.\u2014\nThe Secretary concerned may grant a member of the armed forces emergency leave of absence for a qualifying emergency.\n(b)\nLimitations.\u2014\nAn emergency leave of absence under this section\u2014\n(1) may be granted only once for any member;\n(2) may be granted only to prevent the member from entering unearned leave status or excess leave status; and\n(3) may not extend for a period of more than 14 days.\n(c)\nQualifying Emergency.\u2014\nIn this section, the term \u201cqualifying emergency\u201d, with respect to a member of the armed forces, means a circumstance that\u2014\n(1) is due to\u2014\n(A) a medical condition of a member of the immediate family of the member;
