Conviction of offense charged, lesser included offenses, and attempts\n(a)\nIn General.\u2014\nAn accused may be found guilty of any of the following:\n(1) The offense charged.\n(2) A lesser included offense.\n(3) An attempt to commit the offense charged.\n(4) An attempt to commit a lesser included offense, if the attempt is an offense in its own right.\n(b)\nLesser Included Offense Defined.\u2014\nIn this section (article), the term \u201clesser included offense\u201d means\u2014\n(1) an offense that is necessarily included in the offense charged; and\n(2) any lesser included offense so designated by regulation prescribed by the President.\n(c)\nRegulatory Authority.\u2014\nAny designation of a lesser included offense in a regulation referred to in subsection (b) shall be reasonably included in the greater offense.","url":"https://projectusc.org/usc/t10/s879.html","content":[{"t":"sec","id":"/us/usc/t10/s879","children":[{"t":"num","text":"\u00a7\u202f879."},{"t":"heading","text":"Art. 79.
