{"identifier":"/us/usc/t16/s1151","title":16,"num":"\u00a7\u202f1151.","heading":"Definitions","text":"\u00a7\u202f1151.\nDefinitions\n(a) \u201cCommission\u201d means the North Pacific Fur Seal Commission established pursuant to article V of the Convention.\n(b) \u201cConvention\u201d means the Interim Convention on the Conservation of North Pacific Fur Seals signed at Washington on\nFebruary 9, 1957\nOctober 8, 1963\nSeptember 3, 1969\nMay 7, 1976\nOctober 14, 1980\n(c) \u201cCure\u201d or \u201ccuring\u201d means the performance of those post-harvest activities traditionally performed on the Pribilof Islands, including cooling, washing, removal of blubber, soaking in brine, draining, treating with salt or boric acid, and packing in containers for shipment of fur seal skins.\n(d) \u201cFur Seal\u201d means the North Pacific Fur Seal, Callorhinus Ursinus.\n(e) \u201cImport\u201d means to land on, bring into, or introduce into, or attempt to land on, bring into, or introduce into, any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, whether or not such landing, bringing, or introduction constitutes an importation within the meaning of the customs laws of the United States.\n(f) \u201cNatives of the Pribilof Islands\u201d means any Aleuts who are permanent residents of the Pribilof Islands, or any organization or entity representing such natives.\n(g) \u201cNorth Pacific Ocean\u201d means the waters of the Pacific Ocean north of the thirtieth parallel of north latitude, including the Bering, Okhotsk, and Japan Seas.\n(h) \u201cParty\u201d or \u201cparties\u201d means the United States of America, Canada, Japan, and Russia (except that as used in subsection (b) of this section, \u201cparty\u201d and \u201cparties\u201d refer to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics).\n(i) \u201cPerson\u201d means any individual, partnership, corporation, trust, association or any other private entity, or any officer, employee, agent, department, or instrumentality of the Federal Government, of any State or political subdivision thereof, or of any foreign government.\n(j) \u201cPribilof Islands\u201d means the islands of Saint Paul and Saint George, Walrus and Otter Islands, and Sea Lion Rock.\n(k) \u201cSealing\u201d means the taking of fur seals.\n(l) \u201cSecretary\u201d means the Secretary of Commerce.\n(m) \u201cTake\u201d or \u201ctaking\u201d means to harass, hunt, capture, or kill, or attempt to harass, hunt, capture, or kill.","url":"https://projectusc.org/usc/t16/s1151.html","content":[{"t":"sec","id":"/us/usc/t16/s1151","children":[{"t":"num","text":"\u00a7\u202f1151."},{"t":"heading","text":"Definitions"},{"t":"subsec","id":"/us/usc/t16/s1151/a","children":[{"t":"num","text":"(a)"},{"t":"content","text":" \u201cCommission\u201d means the North Pacific Fur Seal Commission established pursuant to article V of the Convention.","tail":"\n"}],"tail":"\n"},{"t":"subsec","id":"/us/usc/t16/s1151/b","children":[{"t":"num","text":"(b)"},{"t":"content","text":" \u201cConvention\u201d means the Interim Convention on the Conservation of North Pacific Fur Seals signed at Washington on ","children":[{"t":"text","text":"February 9, 1957","tail":", as amended by the protocol signed in Washington on "},{"t":"text","text":"October 8, 1963","tail":";
