Williams National Coral Reef Management Fellowship\n(a)\nDefinitions\nIn this section:\n(1)\nAlaska Native Corporation\nThe term \u201cAlaska Native Corporation\u201d has the meaning given the term \u201cNative Corporation\u201d in\nsection 1602 of title 43\n(2)\nFellow\nThe term \u201cfellow\u201d means a National Coral Reef Management Fellow.\n(3)\nFellowship\nThe term \u201cfellowship\u201d means the National Coral Reef Management Fellowship established in subsection (c).\n(4)\nCovered Native entity\nThe term \u201ccovered Native entity\u201d has the meaning given the term in\nsection 6415 of this title\n(5)\nCovered State\nThe term \u201ccovered State\u201d has the meaning given the term in\nsection 6415 of this title\n(6)\nNative entity\nThe term \u201cNative entity\u201d has the meaning given the term in\nsection 6415 of this title\n(7)\nSecretary\nThe term \u201cSecretary\u201d means the Secretary of Commerce.\n(b)\nEstablishment of fellowship program\n(1)\nIn general\nThere is established a National Coral Reef Management Fellowship Program.\n(2)\nPurposes\nThe purposes of the fellowship are\u2014\n(A) to encourage future leaders of the United States to develop additional coral reef management capacity in States and local communities with coral reefs;\n(B) to provide management agencies of covered States and covered Native entities with highly qualified candidates whose education and work experience meet the specific needs of each covered State or covered Native entity; and\n(C) to provide fellows with professional experience in management of coastal and coral reef resources.\n(c)\nFellowship awards\n(1)\nIn general\nThe Secretary, in consultation with the Secretary of the Interior, shall award a fellowship in accordance with this subsection.\n(2)\nTerm of fellowship\nA fellowship awarded under this subsection shall be for a term of not more than 2 years.\n(3)\nQualifications\nThe Secretary, in consultation with the Secretary of the Interior, shall award a fellowship to individuals who have demonstrated\u2014\n(A) an intent to pursue a career in marine services and outstanding potential for such a career;\n(B) leadership potential, actual leadership experience, or both;\n(C) possession of a college or graduate degree in biological science, a college or graduate degree in resource management with experience that correlates with aptitude and interest for marine management, or both;\n(D) proficient writing and speaking skills; and\n(E) such other attributes as the Secretary, in consultation with the Secretary of the Interior, considers appropriate.\n(d)\nMatching requirement\n(1)\nIn general\nExcept as provided in paragraph (2), the non-Federal share of the costs of a fellowship under this section shall be 25 percent of such costs.\n(2)\nWaiver of matching requirement\nThe Secretary may waive the application of paragraph (1) to a fellowship if the Secretary finds that such waiver is necessary to support a project that the Secretary has identified as a high priority.","url":"https://projectusc.org/usc/t16/s6481.html","content":[{"t":"sec","id":"/us/usc/t16/s6481","children":[{"t":"num","text":"\u00a7\u202f6481."},{"t":"heading","text":"Susan L.
