{"identifier":"/us/usc/t19/s2297","title":19,"num":"\u00a7\u202f2297.","heading":"Job search allowances","text":"\u00a7\u202f2297.\nJob search allowances\n(a)\nJob search allowance authorized\n(1)\nIn general\nAn adversely affected worker covered by a certification issued under subpart A of this part may file an application with the Secretary for payment of a job search allowance.\n(2)\nApproval of applications\nThe Secretary may grant an allowance pursuant to an application filed under paragraph (1) when all of the following apply:\n(A)\nAssist adversely affected worker\nThe allowance is paid to assist an adversely affected worker who has been totally separated in securing a job within the United States.\n(B)\nLocal employment not available\nThe Secretary determines that the worker cannot reasonably be expected to secure suitable employment in the commuting area in which the worker resides.\n(C)\nApplication\nThe worker has filed an application for the allowance with the Secretary before\u2014\n(i) the later of\u2014\n(I) the 365th day after the date of the certification under which the worker is certified as eligible;
