{"identifier":"/us/usc/t20/s1132","title":20,"num":"\u00a7\u202f1132.","heading":"Definitions","text":"\u00a7\u202f1132.\nDefinitions\n(a)\nDefinitions\nAs used in this subchapter\u2014\n(1) the term \u201carea studies\u201d means a program of comprehensive study of the aspects of a society or societies, including study of its history, culture, economy, politics, international relations and languages;\n(2) the term \u201ccomprehensive foreign language and area or international studies center\u201d means an administrative unit of a university that contributes significantly to the national interest in advanced research and scholarship, employs a critical mass of scholars in diverse disciplines related to a geographic concentration, offers intensive language training in languages of its area specialization, maintains important library collections related to the area, and makes training available in language and area studies to a graduate, postgraduate, and undergraduate clientele; and\n1\n1 So in original.
