{"identifier":"/us/usc/t22/s9424","title":22,"num":"\u00a7\u202f9424.","heading":"Definitions","text":"\u00a7\u202f9424.\nDefinitions\nIn this chapter:\n(1)\nAppropriate congressional committees\nThe term \u201cappropriate congressional committees\u201d means\u2014\n(A) the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Committee on Financial Services, and the Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives; and\n(B) the Committee on Foreign Relations, the Committee on the Judiciary, and the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs of the Senate.\n(2)\nForeign person\nThe term \u201cforeign person\u201d\u2014\n(A) means an individual or entity that is not a United States person; and\n(B) includes a foreign state (as such term is defined in\nsection 1603 of title 28\n(3)\nGovernment of Iran\nThe term \u201cGovernment of Iran\u201d has the meaning given such term in section 560.304 of title 31, Code of Federal Regulations, as such section was in effect on\nJanuary 1, 2021\n(4)\nUnited States person\nThe terms \u201cUnited States person\u201d means\u2014\n(A) a United States citizen;\n(B) a permanent resident alien of the United States;\n(C) an entity organized under the laws of the United States or of any jurisdiction within the United States, including a foreign branch of such an entity; or\n(D) a person in the United States.\n(5)\nIran-aligned entity\nThe term \u201cIran-aligned entity\u201d means a foreign person that\u2014\n(A) is controlled or significantly influenced by the Government of Iran; and\n(B) knowingly receives material or financial support from the Government of Iran, including Hezbollah, the Houthis, or any other proxy group that furthers Iran\u2019s national security objectives.\n(6)\nCovered technology\nThe term \u201ccovered technology\u201d means\u2014\n(A) any goods, technology, software, or related material specified in the Missile Technology Control Regime Annex, as in effect on the day before\nApril 24, 2024\n(B) any additional goods, technology, software, or related material added to the Missile Technology Control Regime Annex after the day before\nApril 24, 2024\n(7)\nFamily member\nThe term \u201cfamily member\u201d means\u2014\n(A) a child, grandchild, parent, grandparent, sibling, or spouse;
