{"identifier":"/us/usc/t22/s9601","title":22,"num":"\u00a7\u202f9601.","heading":"Definitions","text":"\u00a7\u202f9601.\nDefinitions\nIn this chapter:\n(1)\nAdvancing income country\nThe term \u201cadvancing income country\u201d, with respect to a fiscal year for the Corporation, means a country the gross national income per capita of which at the start of such fiscal year is\u2014\n(A) greater than the World Bank threshold for initiating the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development graduation process; and\n(B) is equal to or less than the per capita income threshold for classification as a high-income economy (as defined by the World Bank).\n(2)\nAppropriate congressional committees\nThe term \u201cappropriate congressional committees\u201d means\u2014\n(A) the Committee on Foreign Relations and the Committee on Appropriations of the Senate; and\n(B) the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Appropriations of the House of Representatives.\n(3)\nCountry of concern\nThe term \u201ccountry of concern\u201d means any of the following countries:\n(A) The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.\n(B) The Republic of Cuba.\n(C) The Democratic People\u2019s Republic of Korea.\n(D) The Islamic Republic of Iran.\n(E) The People\u2019s Republic of China.\n(F) The Russian Federation.\n(G) The Republic of Belarus.\n(4)\nHigh-income country\nThe term \u201chigh-income country\u201d, with respect to a fiscal year for the Corporation, means a country with a high-income economy (as defined by the World Bank) at the start of such fiscal year but does not include any wealthy country except to the extent investments in such wealthy country are permitted pursuant to\nsection 9612(f) of this title\n(5)\nLess developed country\nThe term \u201cless developed country\u201d, with respect to a fiscal year for the Corporation, means a country the gross national income per capita of which at the start of such fiscal year is equal to or less than the World Bank threshold for initiating the International Bank for Reconstruction Development graduation process.\n(6)\nPredecessor authority\nThe term \u201cpredecessor authority\u201d means authorities repealed by subchapter VI of this chapter.\n(7)\nQualifying sovereign entity\nThe term \u201cqualifying sovereign entity\u201d means\u2014\n(A) any agency or instrumentality of a foreign state (as defined in\nsection 1603 of title 28\nsection 9612(b) of this title\n(B) any international financial institution (as defined in\nsection 262r(c) of this title\n(8)\nWealthy country\nThe term \u201cwealthy country\u201d, with respect to a fiscal year for the Corporation\u2014\n(A) means a country that is among the top 20 countries with the highest gross domestic product per capita at purchasing power parity, as calculated by the World Bank;
