{"identifier":"/us/usc/t33/s1981","title":33,"num":"\u00a7\u202f1981.","heading":"Definitions","text":"\u00a7\u202f1981.\nDefinitions\nIn this chapter:\n(1)\nCircular economy\nThe term \u201ccircular economy\u201d has the meaning given such term in\nsection 4201 of this title\n(2)\nCoastal shoreline community\nThe term \u201ccoastal shoreline community\u201d means a city or county directly adjacent to the open ocean, major estuaries, or the Great Lakes.\n(3)\nEPA Administrator\nThe term \u201cEPA Administrator\u201d has the meaning given such term in\nsection 4201 of this title\n(4)\nIndian Tribe\nThe term \u201cIndian Tribe\u201d has the meaning given that term in\nsection 5304 of title 25\n(5)\nInteragency Committee\nThe term \u201cInteragency Committee\u201d means the Interagency Marine Debris Coordinating Committee established under\nsection 1954 of this title\n(6)\nMarine debris\nThe term \u201cmarine debris\u201d means any persistent solid material that is manufactured or processed and directly or indirectly, intentionally or unintentionally, disposed of or abandoned into the marine environment or the Great Lakes.\n(7)\nMARPOL; Annex V; Convention\nThe terms \u201cMARPOL\u201d, \u201cAnnex V\u201d, and \u201cConvention\u201d have the meaning given those terms under\nsection 1901(a) of this title\n(8)\nNon-Federal funds\nThe term \u201cnon-Federal funds\u201d means funds provided by\u2014\n(A) a State;\n(B) an Indian Tribe;\n(C) a territory of the United States;\n(D) one or more units of local governments or Tribal organizations;\n(E) a foreign government;\n(F) a private for-profit entity;\n(G) a nonprofit organization; or\n(H) a private individual.\n(9)\nNonprofit organization\nThe term \u201cnonprofit organization\u201d has the meaning given such term in\nsection 4201 of this title\n(10)\nPost consumer materials management\nThe term \u201cpost-consumer materials management\u201d has the meaning given such term in\nsection 4201 of this title\n(11)\nProgram\nThe term \u201cProgram\u201d means the Marine Debris Program established under section 1952\n1\n1 See References in Text note below.\n(12)\nSevere marine debris event\nThe term \u201csevere marine debris event\u201d means atypically large amounts of marine debris caused by a natural disaster, including a tsunami, flood, landslide, or hurricane, or other source.\n(13)\nState\nThe term \u201cState\u201d means\u2014\n(A) any State of the United States that is impacted by marine debris within its seaward or Great Lakes boundaries;\n(B) Indian Tribe;\n(C) the District of Columbia;\n(D) American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands;
