{"identifier":"/us/usc/t34/s10705","title":34,"num":"\u00a7\u202f10705.","heading":"Definitions","text":"\u00a7\u202f10705.\nDefinitions\nIn this subchapter:\n(1) The term \u201cfirst responder\u201d includes a firefighter, law enforcement officer, paramedic, emergency medical technician, or other individual (including an employee of a legally organized and recognized volunteer organization, whether compensated or not), who, in the course of his or her professional duties, responds to fire, medical, hazardous material, or other similar emergencies.\n(2) The term \u201cmedication-assisted treatment\u201d means the use of medications approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of opioid abuse.\n(3) The term \u201copioid\u201d means any drug, including heroin, having an addiction-forming or addiction-sustaining liability similar to morphine or being capable of conversion into a drug having such addiction-forming or addiction-sustaining liability.\n(4) The term \u201cschedule II, III, or IV controlled substance\u201d means a controlled substance that is listed on schedule II, schedule III, or schedule IV of\nsection 812(c) of title 21\n(5) The terms \u201cdrug\u201d and \u201cdevice\u201d have the meanings given those terms in\nsection 321 of title 21\n(6) The term \u201ccriminal justice agency\u201d means a State, local, or tribal\u2014\n(A) court;\n(B) prison;\n(C) jail;\n(D) law enforcement agency;
