{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/s18832","title":42,"num":"\u00a7\u202f18832.","heading":"Energy efficiency materials pilot program","text":"\u00a7\u202f18832.\nEnergy efficiency materials pilot program\n(a)\nDefinitions\nIn this section:\n(1)\nApplicant\nThe term \u201capplicant\u201d means a nonprofit organization that applies for a grant under this section.\n(2)\nEnergy-efficiency material\n(A)\nIn general\nThe term \u201cenergy-efficiency material\u201d means a material (including a product, equipment, or system) the installation of which results in a reduction in use by a nonprofit organization of energy or fuel.\n(B)\nInclusions\nThe term \u201cenergy-efficiency material\u201d includes\u2014\n(i) a roof or lighting system or component of the system;\n(ii) a window;\n(iii) a door, including a security door; and\n(iv) a heating, ventilation, or air conditioning system or component of the system (including insulation and wiring and plumbing improvements needed to serve a more efficient system).\n(3)\nNonprofit building\nThe term \u201cnonprofit building\u201d means a building operated and owned by an organization that is described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 and exempt from tax under section 501(a) of such Code.\n(b)\nEstablishment\nNot later than 1 year after\nNovember 15, 2021\n(c)\nGrants\n(1)\nIn general\nThe Secretary may award grants under the program established under subsection (b).\n(2)\nApplication\nThe Secretary may award a grant under paragraph (1) if an applicant submits to the Secretary an application at such time, in such form, and containing such information as the Secretary may prescribe.\n(3)\nCriteria for grant\nIn determining whether to award a grant under paragraph (1), the Secretary shall apply performance-based criteria, which shall give priority to applicants based on\u2014\n(A) the energy savings achieved;\n(B) the cost effectiveness of the use of energy-efficiency materials;\n(C) an effective plan for evaluation, measurement, and verification of energy savings;
