{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/s280g\u20136","title":42,"num":"\u00a7\u202f280g\u20136.","heading":"Chronic kidney disease initiatives","text":"\u00a7\u202f280g\u20136.\nChronic kidney disease initiatives\n(a)\nIn general\nThe Secretary shall establish pilot projects to\u2014\n(1) increase public and medical community awareness (particularly of those who treat patients with diabetes and hypertension) regarding chronic kidney disease, focusing on prevention;\n(2) increase screening for chronic kidney disease, focusing on Medicare beneficiaries at risk of chronic kidney disease; and\n(3) enhance surveillance systems to better assess the prevalence and incidence of chronic kidney disease.\n(b)\nScope and duration\n(1)\nScope\nThe Secretary shall select at least 3 States in which to conduct pilot projects under this section.\n(2)\nDuration\nThe pilot projects under this section shall be conducted for a period that is not longer than 5 years and shall begin on\nJanuary 1, 2009\n(c)\nEvaluation and report\nThe Comptroller General of the United States shall conduct an evaluation of the pilot projects conducted under this section.
