{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/s290ff\u20134","title":42,"num":"\u00a7\u202f290ff\u20134.","heading":"General provisions","text":"\u00a7\u202f290ff\u20134.\nGeneral provisions\n(a)\nDuration of support\nThe period during which payments are made to a public entity from a grant under\nsection 290ff(a) of this title\n(b)\nTechnical assistance\n(1)\nIn general\nThe Secretary shall, upon the request of a public entity, regardless of whether such public entity is receiving a grant under\n(A) provide technical assistance to the entity regarding the process of submitting to the Secretary applications for grants under\nsection 290ff(a) of this title\n(B) provide to the entity training and technical assistance with respect to the planning, development, and operation of systems of care described in\nsection 290ff\u20131 of this title\n(2)\nAuthority for grants and contracts\nThe Secretary may provide technical assistance under subsection (a) directly or through grants to, or contracts with, public and nonprofit private entities.\n(c)\nEvaluations and reports by Secretary\n(1)\nIn general\nThe Secretary shall, directly or through contracts with public or private entities, provide for annual evaluations of programs carried out pursuant to\nsection 290ff(a) of this title\n(2)\nReport to Congress\nThe Secretary shall, not later than 1 year after the date on which amounts are first appropriated under subsection (c), and annually thereafter, submit to the Congress a report summarizing evaluations carried out pursuant to paragraph (1) during the preceding fiscal year and making such recommendations for administrative and legislative initiatives with respect to this section as the Secretary determines to be appropriate.\n(d)\nDefinitions\nFor purposes of this part:\n(1) The term \u201cchild\u201d means an individual through the age of 21 years.\n(2) The term \u201cfamily\u201d, with respect to a child provided access to a system of care under\n(A) the legal guardian of the child;
