{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/s300j\u201319c","title":42,"num":"\u00a7\u202f300j\u201319c.","heading":"Study on intractable water systems","text":"\u00a7\u202f300j\u201319c.\nStudy on intractable water systems\n(a)\nDefinition of intractable water system\nIn this section, the term \u201cintractable water system\u201d means a community water system or a noncommunity water system\u2014\n(1) that serves fewer than 1,000 individuals;\n(2) the owner or operator of which\u2014\n(A) is unable or unwilling to provide safe and adequate service to those individuals;\n(B) has abandoned or effectively abandoned the community water system or noncommunity water system, as applicable;\n(C) has defaulted on a financial obligation relating to the community water system or noncommunity water system, as applicable; or\n(D) fails to maintain the facilities of the community water system or noncommunity water system, as applicable, in a manner so as to prevent a potential public health hazard; and\n(3) that is, as of\n(A) in significant noncompliance with this chapter or any regulation promulgated pursuant to this chapter; or\n(B) listed as having a history of significant noncompliance with this subchapter pursuant to\nsection 300g\u20139(b)(1) of this title\n(b)\nStudy required\n(1)\nIn general\nNot later than 2 years after\n(A) identifies intractable water systems;
