{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/s300j\u20131a","title":42,"num":"\u00a7\u202f300j\u20131a.","heading":"Innovative water technology grant program","text":"\u00a7\u202f300j\u20131a.\nInnovative water technology grant program\n(a)\nDefinitions\nIn this section:\n(1)\nAdministrator\nThe term \u201cAdministrator\u201d means the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.\n(2)\nEligible entity\nThe term \u201celigible entity\u201d means\u2014\n(A) a public water system (as defined under\nsection 300f(4) of this title\n(B) an institution of higher education;\n(C) a research institution or foundation;\n(D) a regional water organization; or\n(E) a nonprofit organization described in\nsection 300j\u20131(e)(8) of this title\n(b)\nGrant program authorized\nThe Administrator shall carry out a grant program for the purpose of accelerating the development and deployment of innovative water technologies that address pressing drinking water supply, quality, treatment, or security challenges of public water systems, areas served by private wells, or source waters.\n(c)\nGrants\nIn carrying out the program under subsection (b), the Administrator shall make grants to eligible entities\u2014\n(1) to develop, test, and deploy innovative water technologies; or\n(2) to provide technical assistance to deploy demonstrated innovative water technologies.\n(d)\nSelection criteria\nIn making grants under this section, the Administrator shall\u2014\n(1) award grants through a competitive process to eligible entities the Administrator determines are best able to carry out the purpose of the program; and\n(2) give priority to projects that have the potential\u2014\n(A) to reduce ratepayer or community costs or costs of future capital investments;\n(B) to significantly improve human health or the environment;
