{"identifier":"/us/usc/t47/s1608","title":47,"num":"\u00a7\u202f1608.","heading":"Definitions","text":"\u00a7\u202f1608.\nDefinitions\nIn this chapter:\n(1)\nAdvanced communications service\nThe term \u201cadvanced communications service\u201d has the meaning given the term \u201cadvanced telecommunications capability\u201d in\nsection 1302 of this title\n(2)\nAppropriate national security agency\nThe term \u201cappropriate national security agency\u201d means\u2014\n(A) the Department of Homeland Security;\n(B) the Department of Defense;\n(C) the Office of the Director of National Intelligence;\n(D) the National Security Agency; and\n(E) the Federal Bureau of Investigation.\n(3)\nCommission\nThe term \u201cCommission\u201d means the Federal Communications Commission.\n(4)\nCommunications equipment or service\nThe term \u201ccommunications equipment or service\u201d means any equipment or service that is essential to the provision of advanced communications service.\n(5)\nCovered communications equipment or service\nThe term \u201ccovered communications equipment or service\u201d means any communications equipment or service that is on the list published by the Commission under\nsection 1601(a) of this title\n(6)\nCustomers\nThe term \u201ccustomers\u201d means, with respect to a provider of advanced communications service\u2014\n(A) the customers of such provider; and\n(B) the customers of any affiliate (as defined in\nsection 153 of this title\n(7)\nExecutive branch interagency body\nThe term \u201cexecutive branch interagency body\u201d means an interagency body established in the executive branch.\n(8)\nPerson\nThe term \u201cperson\u201d means an individual or entity.\n(9)\nProgram\nThe term \u201cProgram\u201d means the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Reimbursement Program established under\nsection 1603(a) of this title\n(10)\nProvider of advanced communications service\nThe term \u201cprovider of advanced communications service\u201d\u2014\n(A) means a person who provides advanced communications service to United States customers; and\n(B) includes\u2014\n(i) accredited public or private noncommercial educational institutions, providing their own facilities-based educational broadband service, as defined in section 27.4 of title 47, Code of Federal Regulations, or any successor regulation;
