{"identifier":"/us/usc/t49/s70201","title":49,"num":"\u00a7\u202f70201.","heading":"State freight advisory committees","text":"\u00a7\u202f70201.\nState freight advisory committees\n(a)\nIn General.\u2014\nThe Secretary of Transportation shall encourage each State to establish a freight advisory committee consisting of a representative cross-section of public and private sector freight stakeholders, including representatives of\u2014\n(1) ports, if applicable;\n(2) freight railroads, if applicable;\n(3) shippers;\n(4) carriers;\n(5) freight-related associations;\n(6) third-party logistics providers;\n(7) the freight industry workforce;\n(8) the transportation department of the State;\n(9) metropolitan planning organizations;\n(10) local governments;\n(11) the environmental protection department of the State, if applicable;\n(12) the air resources board of the State, if applicable;\n(13) economic development agencies of the State; and\n(14) not-for-profit organizations or community organizations.\n(b)\nQualifications.\u2014\nEach member of a freight advisory committee established under subsection (a) shall have qualifications sufficient to serve on a freight advisory committee, including, as applicable\u2014\n(1) general business and financial experience;\n(2) experience or qualifications in the areas of freight transportation and logistics;\n(3) experience in transportation planning;\n(4) experience representing employees of the freight industry;\n(5) experience representing a State, local government, or metropolitan planning organization; or\n(6) experience representing the views of a community group or not-for-profit organization.\n(c)\nRole of Committee.\u2014\nA freight advisory committee of a State described in subsection (a) shall\u2014\n(1) advise the State on freight-related priorities, issues, projects, and funding needs;\n(2) serve as a forum for discussion for State transportation decisions affecting freight mobility;\n(3) communicate and coordinate regional priorities with other organizations;\n(4) promote the sharing of information between the private and public sectors on freight issues;
