{"identifier":"/us/usc/t50/s3164","title":50,"num":"\u00a7\u202f3164.","heading":"Definitions","text":"\u00a7\u202f3164.\nDefinitions\nFor purposes of this subchapter\u2014\n(1) the term \u201cauthorized investigative agency\u201d means an agency authorized by law or regulation to conduct a counterintelligence investigation or investigations of persons who are proposed for access to classified information to ascertain whether such persons satisfy the criteria for obtaining and retaining access to such information;\n(2) the term \u201cclassified information\u201d means any information that has been determined pursuant to Executive Order No. 12356 of\nApril 2, 1982\n42 U.S.C. 2011\n(3) the term \u201cconsumer reporting agency\u201d has the meaning given such term in\nsection 1681a of title 15\n(4) the term \u201cemployee\u201d includes any person who receives a salary or compensation of any kind from the United States Government, is a contractor of the United States Government or an employee thereof, is an unpaid consultant of the United States Government, or otherwise acts for or on behalf of the United States Government, except as otherwise determined by the President;\n(5) the terms \u201cfinancial agency\u201d and \u201cfinancial institution\u201d have the meanings given to such terms in\nsection 5312(a) of title 31\nsection 3401(6) of title 12\n(6) the terms \u201cforeign power\u201d and \u201cagent of a foreign power\u201d have the same meanings as set forth in subsections (a) and (b) of section 1801, respectively, of this title;\n(7) the term \u201cState\u201d means each of the several States of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the United States Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of Palau, and any other possession of the United States;
