{"identifier":"/us/usc/t50/s3355g","title":50,"num":"\u00a7\u202f3355g.","heading":"Definitions","text":"\u00a7\u202f3355g.\nDefinitions\nIn this subchapter:\n(1)\nAgency\n(A) Except as provided in subparagraph (B), the term \u201cagency\u201d means the following:\n(i) An Executive agency, as that term is defined in\nsection 105 of title 5\n(ii) A military department, as that term is defined in section 102 of such title.\n(iii) Any other entity in the executive branch that comes into the possession of classified information.\n(B) The term does not include the Board.\n(2)\nClassified material or record\nThe terms \u201cclassified material\u201d and \u201cclassified record\u201d include any correspondence, memorandum, book, plan, map, drawing, diagram, pictorial or graphic work, photograph, film, microfilm, sound recording, videotape, machine readable records, and other documentary material, regardless of physical form or characteristics, that has been determined pursuant to Executive order to require protection against unauthorized disclosure in the interests of the national security of the United States.\n(3)\nDeclassification\nThe term \u201cdeclassification\u201d means the process by which records or materials that have been classified are determined no longer to require protection from unauthorized disclosure to protect the national security of the United States.\n(4)\nDonated historical material\nThe term \u201cdonated historical material\u201d means collections of personal papers donated or given to a Federal Presidential library or other archival repository under a deed of gift or otherwise.\n(5)\nFederal Presidential library\nThe term \u201cFederal Presidential library\u201d means a library operated and maintained by the United States Government through the National Archives and Records Administration under the applicable provisions of the Federal Records Act of 1950.\n(6)\nNational security\nThe term \u201cnational security\u201d means the national defense or foreign relations of the United States.\n(7)\nRecords or materials of extraordinary public interest\nThe term \u201crecords or materials of extraordinary public interest\u201d means records or materials that\u2014\n(A) demonstrate and record the national security policies, actions, and decisions of the United States, including\u2014\n(i) policies, events, actions, and decisions which led to significant national security outcomes; and\n(ii) the development and evolution of significant United States national security policies, actions, and decisions;\n(B) will provide a significantly different perspective in general from records and materials publicly available in other historical sources;
