{"identifier":"/us/usc/t51/s40302","title":51,"num":"\u00a7\u202f40302.","heading":"Definitions","text":"\u00a7\u202f40302.\nDefinitions\nIn this chapter:\n(1)\nAeronautical and space activities.\u2014\nThe term \u201caeronautical and space activities\u201d has the meaning given the term in\nsection 20103 of this title\n(2)\nField related to space.\u2014\nThe term \u201cfield related to space\u201d means any academic discipline or field of study (including the physical, natural, and biological sciences, and engineering, space technology, education, economics, sociology, communications, planning, law, international affairs, and public administration) which is concerned with or likely to improve the understanding, assessment, development, and utilization of space.\n(3)\nPanel.\u2014\nThe term \u201cpanel\u201d means the space grant review panel established pursuant to\nsection 40308 of this title\n(4)\nPerson.\u2014\nThe term \u201cperson\u201d means any individual, any public or private corporation, partnership, or other association or entity (including any space grant college, space grant regional consortium, institution of higher education, institute, or laboratory), or any State, political subdivision of a State, or agency or officer of a State or political subdivision of a State.\n(5)\nSpace environment.\u2014\nThe term \u201cspace environment\u201d means the environment beyond the sensible atmosphere of the Earth.\n(6)\nSpace grant college.\u2014\nThe term \u201cspace grant college\u201d means any public or private institution of higher education which is designated as such by the Administrator pursuant to\nsection 40306 of this title\n(7)\nSpace grant program.\u2014\nThe term \u201cspace grant program\u201d means any program that\u2014\n(A) is administered by any space grant college, space grant regional consortium, institution of higher education, institute, laboratory, or State or local agency; and\n(B) includes 2 or more projects involving education and one or more of the following activities in the fields related to space:\n(i) Research.\n(ii) Training.\n(iii) Advisory services.\n(8)\nSpace grant regional consortium.\u2014\nThe term \u201cspace grant regional consortium\u201d means any association or other alliance that is designated as a space grant regional consortium by the Administrator pursuant to\nsection 40306 of this title\n(9)\nSpace resource.\u2014\nThe term \u201cspace resource\u201d means any tangible or intangible benefit which can be realized only from\u2014\n(A) aeronautical and space activities;
