{"identifier":"/us/usc/t6/s187","title":6,"num":"\u00a7\u202f187.","heading":"Homeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency","text":"\u00a7\u202f187.\nHomeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency\n(a)\nDefinitions\nIn this section:\n(1)\nFund\nThe term \u201cFund\u201d means the Acceleration Fund for Research and Development of Homeland Security Technologies established in subsection (c).\n(2)\nHomeland security research\nThe term \u201chomeland security research\u201d means research relevant to the detection of, prevention of, protection against, response to, attribution of, and recovery from homeland security threats, particularly acts of terrorism.\n(3)\nHSARPA\nThe term \u201cHSARPA\u201d means the Homeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency established in subsection (b).\n(4)\nUnder Secretary\nThe term \u201cUnder Secretary\u201d means the Under Secretary for Science and Technology.\n(b)\nHomeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency\n(1)\nEstablishment\nThere is established the Homeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency.\n(2)\nDirector\nHSARPA shall be headed by a Director, who shall be appointed by the Secretary. The Director shall report to the Under Secretary.\n(3)\nResponsibilities\nThe Director shall administer the Fund to award competitive, merit-reviewed grants, cooperative agreements or contracts to public or private entities, including businesses, federally funded research and development centers, and universities.
