{"identifier":"/us/usc/t7/s2036d","title":7,"num":"\u00a7\u202f2036d.","heading":"Pilot projects to encourage the use of public-private partnerships committed to addressing food insecurity","text":"\u00a7\u202f2036d.\nPilot projects to encourage the use of public-private partnerships committed to addressing food insecurity\n(a)\nIn general\nThe Secretary may, on application of eligible entities, approve not more than 10 pilot projects to support public-private partnerships that address food insecurity and poverty.\n(b)\nDefinitions\nFor purposes of this section\u2014\n(1) the term \u201celigible entity\u201d means\u2014\n(A) a nonprofit organization;\n(B) a community-based organization;\n(C) an institution of higher education; or\n(D) a private entity, as determined by the Secretary; and\n(2) the term \u201cpublic agency\u201d means a department, agency, other unit, or instrumentality of Federal, State, or local government.\n(c)\nProject requirements\nProjects approved under this section shall\u2014\n(1) be limited to 2 years in length; and\n(2) include a collaboration between one or more public agencies and one or more eligible entities that\u2014\n(A) improves the effectiveness and impact of the supplemental nutrition assistance program;\n(B) develops food security solutions that are specific to the needs of a community or region; and\n(C) strengthens the capacity of communities to address food insecurity and poverty.\n(d)\nEvaluation\nThe Secretary shall provide for an independent evaluation of pilot projects approved under this section that includes\u2014\n(1) a summary of the activities conducted under the pilot projects;\n(2) an assessment of the effectiveness of the pilot projects;
