{"identifier":"/us/usc/t7/s5102","title":7,"num":"\u00a7\u202f5102.","heading":"Matching grants to States","text":"\u00a7\u202f5102.\nMatching grants to States\n(a)\nMatching grants\nWithin 60 days after the Secretary certifies the State as a qualifying State under\nsection 5101(b) of this title\n(b)\nAmount of grant\n(1)\nIn general\nSubject to paragraph (2), the Secretary shall pay to a State under subsection (a) not more than 70 percent of the cost of the operation and administration of the mediation program within the State.\n(2)\nMaximum amount\nThe Secretary shall not pay more than $500,000 per year to a single State under subsection (a).\n(c)\nUse of grant\n(1)\nIn general\nEach State that receives an amount paid under subsection (a) shall use that amount only for the operation and administration of the mediation program of the State with respect to which the amount was paid.\n(2)\nOperation and administration expenses\nFor purposes of paragraph (1), operation and administration expenses for which a grant may be used include\u2014\n(A) salaries;\n(B) reasonable fees and costs of mediators;\n(C) office rent and expenses, such as utilities and equipment rental;\n(D) office supplies;\n(E) administrative costs, such as workers\u2019 compensation, liability insurance, the employer\u2019s share of Social Security, and necessary travel;\n(F) education and training;\n(G) security systems necessary to ensure the confidentiality of mediation sessions and records of mediation sessions;\n(H) costs associated with publicity and promotion of the mediation program;\n(I) preparation of the parties for mediation;
